Piraeus Bank and Eurohoops create EQUALL HOOPS, the innovative sports programme for children on the autism spectrum
Piraeus Bank and the Eurohoops Organisation join forces to create EQUALL HOOPS, a programme of actions for the empowerment and inclusion of children and young people on the autism spectrum, as well as for raising awareness of neurodiversity in society, using basketball as a vehicle.
EQUALL HOOPS includes free Special Basketball Education training sessions on a weekly basis at the state-of-the-art facilities of the Eurohoops Dome for 20 boys and girls aged 12 to 22 years old. The initiative is part of Piraeus Bank’s EQUALL programme for a society of equal people.
Eurohoops, the largest basketball organisation in Europe, which helps spread the passion for healthy sport, teaches the sport and its high values, holds high-level socially oriented events, and launched the Special Basketball Education Department for young people on the autism spectrum as part of the Eurohoops Academy activities in 2021. With the strategic partnership of Piraeus Bank, which through a series of initiatives and actions actively supports social equality, the experience and expertise of Eurohoops Academy is given a new impetus. EQUALL HOOPS aims to enhance the accessibility of neurodiverse young people to team sports and shape the conditions for social inclusion, starting with sport.
Registrations for EQUALL HOOPS may be filed online until 12 October 2023.
Piraeus Bank CEO Mr. Christos Megalou said: “For Piraeus Bank, the vision of a society where all people have equal opportunities is a central pillar of our Corporate Responsibility strategy. With the EQUALL programme, we actively contribute to social progress and development, focusing on supporting social groups and, in particular, vulnerable young people and our children. Given that sport is a powerful tool for promoting equality and inclusion, offering young people the opportunity to develop skills and learn the values of perseverance, solidarity and teamwork, we created EQUALL HOOPS. With strong commitment and sensitivity, we exploit the potential offered by sport and implement actions that contribute to the formation of a society of equal people.”
The Director of the Eurohoops Academy and EuroLeague Legend, Thodoris Papaloukas, pointed out: “Sport is above all joy and can serve as an effective means of social change. Our society needs more than ever to acquire awareness and evolve. Through this programme our primary goal is to see happy children and lay the foundations for inclusion in sport.”
