Environmental Awareness

Piraeus steadily invests in environmental protection awareness-raising actions, aiming to create a sustainable culture starting with the younger generations and extending to the entire society. Contributing to the achievement of the objectives set by UNESCO’s global campaign, Partnership for Green Education, which was also joined by Greece, Piraeus supports the expansion of Eco-Schools, the international Environmental Education Network. To this end, it cooperates with educational institutions encouraging students to develop ecological awareness and adopt sustainability practices. Students participate in hands-on activities and workshops to experience the importance of recycling, energy saving, and rational management of resources, thus fostering their sense of responsibility towards the environment.

Supporting students in areas such as Evros and Thessaly, which have been affected by natural disasters that have dramatically impacted their daily lives, is a priority.  Through the Looking towards Tomorrow action, 1,011 students from these regions were supported in coping with the consequences and moving on to the next day, leaving behind the feeling of insecurity that had emerged. 
With these actions, Piraeus contributes to building a better tomorrow, investing in environmental education and awareness and laying the foundations for a society that respects and cares for its natural wealth. By being a model of environmental responsibility, Piraeus aims at inspiring the younger generation and fostering values that promote sustainability and positive change for decades to come.
