Greening Education Partnership in Greece – Eco-Schools
Educating and fostering eco-consciousness among the country’s students.
Piraeus partnered with the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (HSPN) to implement the educational action Greening Education Partnership in Greece for the school year 2024–2025. This initiative is part of the international Eco-Schools programme run by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and is implemented in Greece by the HSPN with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
The Eco-Schools programme is the largest international education programme for sustainability, involving 60,000 schools and 20 million students in 99 countries worldwide. The Eco-Schools programme gives students the opportunity to participate in initiatives that promote action on climate change, waste management, energy conservation, and the preservation of biodiversity, aiming to change behaviour among all members of the school community (students, teachers, parents, and staff). The programme focuses on creating school communities to be role models of knowledge and best practices for the local community.
This programme has also been endorsed by UNESCO, underscoring its importance as a holistic framework for the green transition of educational institutions.
