Memorandum of Cooperation between Piraeus Bank and the Municipality of Thessaloniki for the Improvement of Citizens' Daily Life

Piraeus Bank has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Municipality of Thessaloniki to implement actions and interventions aimed at improving the daily life and quality of life of citizens by promoting sustainability, accessibility, social cohesion, and culture in the city's environment.

The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed on May 29 by the CEO of Piraeus Bank, Mr. Christos Megalou, and the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Stelios Aggeloudis. The actions and urban interventions to be carried out are part of the Bank's Corporate Responsibility program "Equall – For a Society of Equal People." The interventions will be neighborhood-scale, focusing on the area of the 2nd Municipal Community, aiming to enhance accessibility, social inclusion, and sustainability. They include upgrading urban infrastructure, creating "pocket" parks, tree planting, upgrading sidewalks, constructing crossings for people with disabilities, playgrounds, and supporting social and cultural activities.

Referring to this new initiative of Piraeus Bank, CEO Mr. Christos Megalou stated: "The Memorandum of Cooperation marks the joint commitment of the Municipality of Thessaloniki and our Bank to proceed with interventions that improve the daily life of citizens. Through the 'Equall – For a Society of Equal People' program, we join forces for actions that will enhance sustainability, accessibility for vulnerable groups, and social cohesion. It is a partnership of substance, with a real positive social impact for the city and its citizens, which we hope will lead to the creation of a new model of Accessible Community in large urban centers. We are optimistic that we will offer a better quality in the small things that make up the daily life of the residents of Thessaloniki."

On his part, the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Stelios Aggeloudis, emphasized: "Piraeus Bank's initiative to place the sustainable future of Thessaloniki at the center of its responsibility strategy fully serves our vision for improving daily life and upgrading the quality of life of its residents. It is a collaboration of responsibility and consistency, which starts with the recognition of the plan we have been implementing for the transformation of the city for the past 17 months. I thank CEO Mr. Christos Megalou and all his associates for their immediacy, increased reflexes, and practical willingness to actively participate in the aesthetic and functional upgrade of public space, the enhancement of greenery, accessibility, and the shaping of Thessaloniki for the next day."

Specifically, the interventions to be carried out will focus on the following areas:

• Strategic Development Interventions: Design and implementation of infrastructure projects that will improve the daily life of the residents of the 2nd Municipal Community and subsequently other areas within the administrative boundaries of the Municipality.
• Creation of Green Spaces and Urban Renewal: Creation of "pocket" parks, tree planting, and upgrading public spaces, aiming to enhance greenery and improve the city's microclimate.
• Improvement of Accessibility: Repair of sidewalks and construction of crossings for people with disabilities, enhancing accessibility in public spaces for all citizens.
• Social Cohesion and Participation: Development of actions to enhance social cohesion and citizen participation in initiatives that promote social integration.
• Culture: Organization or support of cultural activities, such as exhibitions, performances, sports events, workshops, and conferences, publications, festivals, and any other art and culture events aimed at the residents and visitors of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

In this partnership, Piraeus Bank will be the exclusive partner of the Municipality for the jointly implemented actions.
