The First Act is a new initiative by Piraeus aimed at promoting contemporary Greek playwriting and supporting the next generation of creators. The initiative is implemented within the framework of Piraeus’ Corporate Responsibility EQUALL for Culture and, in particular, the Creative Ecosystem pillar.
EQUALL promotes equal access to and participation in culture, based on the belief that culture is not only a public good but also a fundamental driver of social cohesion, creative expression and sustainable development.
In this context, Piraeus invites emerging writers and creators to participate in The First Act by submitting original plays and artistic proposals inspired by the following theme:
Authenticity and spontaneity, coexistence and freedom in contemporary Greek cities. The distinctive, multifaceted character of Athens and other Greek cities as alternative ways of living and models of creativity, offering a different perspective from other urban environments.
