Actions for culture
Piraeus connects with the culture and historical heritage of Greece through a range of initiatives that promote and highlight the country’s cultural wealth. In recent years, we have supported major cultural events, actively contributing to the preservation and dissemination of historical and artistic traditions.
Piraeus actively participated in the celebration of the Bicentennial of the 1821 Revolution, supporting a wide range of commemorative events that shed light on the struggle for independence and freedom. These initiatives also contributed to advancing research and deepening understanding of the Revolution’s significance in shaping the modern Greek state.
Furthermore, in collaboration with leading institutions and prominent people from the fields of science and culture in Greece, Piraeus commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe and the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne on the exchange of populations (1923), through a series of publications and exhibitions. These initiatives highlighted their profound impact on Hellenism, contributing to the preservation of historical memory and the advancement of research on this pivotal period in Greek history.
