Recognise - Protect

The Recognise - Protect action was created by the ELIZA Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children with the strategic partnership of Piraeus Bank and runs under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports.

The program consists of two parts:

Educational planning process

Needs assessment of 10% of all kindergarten teachers in the country working in public kindergartens
Formulation of the educational program
Digitalization of the educational material to ensure program sustainability
15-hour training of kindergarten teachers who participated in the survey
Evaluation of knowledge acquired

Αsynchronous and synchronous learning

Training of all interested kindergarten teachers in the country through 12 hours of asynchronous and 3 hours of synchronous learning.

Program objectives

Child protection focus

The program aims to protect children who have experienced or are at risk of abuse or neglect.

Kindergarten teachers

It is specifically addressed to kindergarten teachers — the first professionals in direct contact with young children and their parents.

Early identification skills

Pre-school teachers are trained to recognize suspected cases of child abuse and/or neglect.

Effective response

Participants acquire skills to respond promptly and effectively to such incidents in order to address or eliminate them.

Nationwide rollout

The program will eventually be extended to include all preschool educators in the country. In its initial pilot phase, the program benefits 1,650 kindergarten teachers.

Academic Integration

An additional objective is to integrate this training into the curricula of university departments of Early Childhood Education.
