The ΕΛ Sovereign Chief Coin of the World

Piraeus Bank, in collaboration with The Royal Mint, has launched a limited-edition Sovereign bearing the Hellenic privy mark ‘ΕΛ’, inspired by Ελλάδα (Hellas). This special release honours Greece’s enduring connection to the Sovereign and celebrates the 15-year partnership between Piraeus Bank and The Royal Mint.

More than Gold

In Greece, the Sovereign has become much more than gold;
a discreet symbol of value, woven into the cultural ethos.

Hellenic Privy Mark
Piraeus Bank, in collaboration with The Royal Mint, unveils the first Sovereign ever to bear the Hellenic privy mark “ΕΛ”, derived from ΕΛΛΑΣ (Hellas), and officially authorised by the Royal Mint Advisory Committee.
Limited Production
The “ΕΛ” Sovereign has been struck in limited quantity as a commemorative edition and forms part of the final rose-gold alloy series produced by the Royal Mint. As with all Sovereigns, it is recognized as official legal tender of the United Kingdom.
Hellenic Heritage
The Gold Sovereign is one of the world’s most enduring and recognisable coins, standing as a global reference point in numismatics and monetary history.
In Greece, the Sovereign holds a unique place. Throughout the 20th century it became synonymous with security, prudence, and intergenerational responsibility, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s economic and cultural life. The “ΕΛ” Sovereign pays tribute to this longstanding bond - a cultural bridge between nations and generations.

Design & aesthetics

The obverse features the portrait of His Majesty King Charles III. The reverse displays Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic depiction of St George on horseback, accompanied by the Hellenic privy mark “ΕΛ”.

Every Sovereign is crafted to The Royal Mint’s exacting manufacturing standards, demanding expert craftsmanship, precision, and the refined attention to detail characteristic of fine jewelry.

Premium Packaging
The coin is presented in a certified security blister, in credit card format. The card displays the technical specifications of the issue, the Hellenic Privy Mark, and a reference to the 15-year collaboration between Piraeus Bank and The Royal Mint.
Exclusive distribution
The “ΕΛ” Sovereign is available exclusively to clients of Piraeus Bank, in limited quantities and with a limit of one piece per client.  For information on availability clients may contact any Piraeus Bank branch, the specialized Piraeus Gold units, or their Relationship Manager.
