How do I activate a direct debit?
- Direct debit activation is done easily via Piraeus e-banking & Piraeus app, or at any branch of Piraeus Bank.
Which payments can I settle with a direct debit?
- Via direct debits, the following are settled:
Insurance, Municipalities, Public Sector, EFKA, Commercial companies, Energy, Chambers/Associations, Public Entities (NPD, NPID), Telecommunications, Water supply, Financial services.
Is the direct debit executed if my account does not have sufficient balance?
- The payment is not executed, and the direct debit may be interrupted by the company. In this case, it is recommended to contact the company.
If interrupted, it must be set up again.
If I have paid a bill outside the direct debit I have set and before its due date, will it still be paid via the direct debit?
- Yes, if the organization sends a debit instruction.
If you want to be sure you won't be charged twice, you can request cancellation of the direct debit and then set it up again. Cancellation can be done easily via Piraeus e-banking & Piraeus app.
If the bill is paid twice in the end, you should contact the organization for a refund.
How can I protect myself from charges from the organization via direct debit?
- There is an option to set a maximum debit amount per direct debit from the organization. If a debit instruction exceeding the set amount is sent, it will not be executed, protecting you from increased charges that may arise from errors or damages by the organization.
Is there an option to dispute a transaction and get a refund?
You can request a refund:
- Within 56 calendar days from the debit date of your bank account, via the call center (2103288000) or at a Piraeus Bank branch.
- Within 13 months from the debit date, at a branch, if it concerns an incorrectly executed or unauthorized transaction, e.g., if you have not signed or have revoked the direct debit instruction.
Note that for SEPA B2B (Business to Business) transactions, there is no right to refund.
Can I set up a direct debit for credit card repayment or money transfer?
- You can set up a direct debit for your credit card repayment or for transfers between accounts at Piraeus Bank, through the respective transaction menus in Piraeus app & e-banking.
