New Contract Farming & Livestock Farming Programmes

Piraeus Bank offers support for two new agreements: one in the field of Contract Farming and the other in the field of Contract Livestock Farming. Piraeus Bank has consistently and dynamically supported efforts to bolster the rural economy and improve rural incomes across the entire range of farming activities.

The Contract Farming agreement relates to wheat and involves a partnership between Piraeus Bank, Thrace Mills – I. Ouzounopoulos SA and growers in the Thrace region.

This programme has already been launched, with Piraeus Bank providing liquidity to growers so that they can purchase the agricultural supplies needed in good time to generate a good harvest. The Contract Farming agreement ensures that products will be purchased by Thrace Mills – I. Ouzounopoulos SA and growers will be paid in good time, thereby safeguarding their income and protecting the whole production sector.

In the Contract Livestock Farming sector, Piraeus Bank has extended the programme, having recently concluded an agreement with INAXOS SA and livestock farmers in the Fthiotida region.

This new agreement offers a series of financing options that cover the entire production network. It ensures that livestock farmers have the necessary liquidity to purchase animal feed and agricultural supplies to produce fodder crops if they grow crops and also raise livestock at the same time, while also guaranteeing them a market for their end products.

Piraeus Bank also offers growers/livestock farmers who join the Contract Farming and Contract Livestock Farming programmes approved credit insurance for possible loss of crops/livestock due to disease or natural disasters.
These new partnerships bring the number of Contract Farming and Contract Livestock Farming programmes to 15 in total, which reflects Piraeus Bank’s unwavering commitment to supporting and bolstering endeavours to improve production in this economic sector.

THE PROGRAM

• Supports productive activity by guaranteeing the necessary liquidity for Greek growers, so that not only can they continue to produce but, thanks to better planning of their inflows, can achieve better prices, improve growing conditions and guarantee a better quality end product.

• Guarantees the necessary raw materials for businesses so that they can plan their payments and keep their liabilities in order, while also reliably implementing product delivery agreements and clauses they have signed.

• Generates business at the level of local communities and markets in terms of agricultural inflows, agricultural supplies and energy, which will provide a significant injection of liquidity to those markets because all agricultural supplies needed to grow the crops will be paid for immediately.

THE BANK’S ROLE

The Bank enters into a loan agreement on two levels:

a) Initially with the buyer of the crops or livestock.

b) Then it provides credit to the growers/livestock farmers who have entered into or will enter into contract with the above buyer, using the Contract Farming/Livestock Farming card.

c) Contracts are signed with agricultural supply firms - agronomists and petrol stations to install a POS for purchases using the Contract Farming/Livestock Farming card.
